If this sounds like a bold statement, it is! Does it sound a bit greedy or selfish to you? It is. Is this statement contrary to how you want to live your life in this big world? If it is, just so you know, we are like-minded in this endeavor, and before you decide to stop reading this blog post, let me explain. I am actually talking about having it all in relation to what is growing on around us at the Wild Blueberry Farm, so please, I hope you will keep reading to the very end because I have something for you too.
See the goldenrod? This flower is growing and flourishing in the fallow sections where my Wild Blueberry plants grow.
See the honeybee? This fall flower is so important for all the pollinators right now. It is the last great harvest for them before they go inside for the winter.
I have roughly 12 acres of goldenrod growing in my Wild Blueberry fields to help with pollinator needs in the fall and this section of field will produce Wild Blueberries for me next year. This practice of rotational pruning and growing goldenrod with my Wild Blueberries occurs year after year without harm to the wild blueberry plants. The fruiting field next year will be weeded of all plants so that fruit can grow uninhibited and last years fruited sections will grow the goldenrod in the fall for the pollinators. I truly am in awe at how nature can work together, benefiting us all so that we can glean what we all need.
So Yes, I grow Organic and Wild Maine Blueberries; and Yes, I use the Wild Blueberry fruit and leaves I grow to make organic value-added products right here at my farm that nourish those looking for pure, real plant food, tea & medicine; and Yes, it is about MORE than just the fruit and the leaves of the Wild Maine Blueberry plants for me, it is also about fall goldenrod that grows synergistically with my Wild Blueberry plants in the pruned sections of my fields that will help feed pollinators at this time of year. Now you know why I can so boldly claim, YES, we can have it all!
I love that the bees and wild blueberry plants and goldenrod can have it all, so in honor of all that is "growing" on at Highland Blueberry Farm, we want YOU to have something too!
